Submit Housing Application

Submit your enrollment deposit first!

In order to access the housing application, you must first submit your enrollment deposit to confirm your enrollment with UNH. Please note that access to the housing application is not immediate after submitting the enrollment deposit and can take up to 10 days to become available. We encourage all students to submit enrollment deposits as soon as they are able to confirm with UNH to ensure you have access to the housing application sooner than later.

Confirm Your Enrollment

Submitting a housing application is easy and is completed online in the Housing Portal. The deadline to submit a housing application and be able to participate in self-selection is May 31, 2025. Applications received after this deadline will still be accepted, but students will be hand assigned by UNH Housing staff and will not be able to select their space.

  1. Log into the Housing Portal with your UNH/USNH account (learn how to activate your account in the New Student Checklist)
  2. Once logged into the Housing Portal, choose "Housing Applications" from the menu
  3. Locate the "2025-2026 Academic Year" application and click "Apply"
  4. Complete the application! Be sure to navigate all the way to the end of the application in order to submit the application. Once you join or form a roommate group, your application is considered submitted. You can continue to adjust your roommate group through the roommate group deadline.

Check out our Application FAQs for more information about the housing application process.

What You Need to Submit a Housing Application

  • USNH login credentials (to log into the Housing Portal)
  • If under 18 years of age at the time of completing the application, you must have contact information (email) for an individual who is over 18 who can sign the Room & Board Agreement on your behalf
  • Contact information for yourself
  • Contact information for an emergency contact
  • General information about yourself for your roommate profile
  • Whether you want to opt into GradGuard renters insurance
  • Roommate(s) you want to live with (for self-selection processes only)
  • An idea of which type of housing you are interested in
  • Your interest in a residential learning community (RLC)

Form or Join a Roommate Group

The housing selection process works on "groups" - all students must be part of a group in order to participate in the self-selection process. Students can be in a group size of one (just themselves!) to three (as a triple is the maximum size room available to first-year students during selection). Students who are interested in a single room or wish to choose a space without an identified roommate must still create a group of one in order to participate.

The deadline for forming or joining a roommate group is June 30, 2025.

Additional information and instructions about roommate groups is available in our Application FAQs

Select Your Space

Students who submitted a housing application by May 31, 2025 and formed/joined a roommate group by June 30, 2025 will be able to participate in the self-selection process to choose their own room. Students who did not meet these deadlines will be hand assigned to an available space after the self-selection process has completed and before move-in.

There are two self-selection process - one for residential learning communities (RLCs) and one for general (non-RLC) communities. A student can only participate in one of the selection processes. Keep reading to learn more.

Residential Learning Community (RLC) Selection

Timeslots Distributed: Tuesday, July 1, 2025
Room Selection: Wednesday, July 2, 2025

Students who are interested in living in an RLC must express interest in their housing application (there is a section to say "yes" or "no" to RLC interest). Students who do not express interest in the application will not be able to participate in RLC selection.

Eligibility for an RLC is based on a student's academic college, major or program. Learn more about RLC eligibility and the ability to "pull-in" non-RLC roommates on the learning and theme communities page.

General Selection

Timeslots Distributed: Thursday, July 3, 2025
Room Selection: Monday, July 7 & Tuesday, July 8, 2025

Students who are not interested in living in an RLC or students who are unable to select a space during RLC selection will participate in the general selection process. This is the process when the majority of incoming first-year students will choose their room.

Important Selection Details & Tips

  • Plan ahead and have multiple room/building preferences! It's possible that a student's most preferred space is unavailable - be ready with more preferences. There is no "best hall" - all halls are different and have unique features to offer.
  • All timeslots are randomized.
  • Each member of a group will receive a timeslot and the group leader is able to log in at the earliest time from all group members.
  • Only the group leader is able to log in at the group's earliest timeslot to select a space. If the group leader is not available at the assigned timeslot, the group can reassign the group leader role to another student in the group who is available at the time.
  • Single rooms for first-year students are limited.
  • If, after self-selection, you'd like to request a room change, you can reach out to Housing and request a "wish list" change. While we cannot guarantee to make wish list moves happen before move-in, we do have changes that occur all summer up to move-in.

Additional information and instructions about self-selection is available in our Application FAQs
